home again

well, it wasn't millau after all. lou got behind the wheel and decided in view of the awful weather we were driving through and the next day's forecast looking grim that if he felt ok at millau we would go for gagnac! and we did!
the weather dried up as we left the coast but the grey clouds dominated all the way with splashes of sunshine from a sky that the french forecasters refer to as a 'ciel chaotique'! above millau we sailed across the wonderful bridge that never fails to take my breath away (the latent engineer again?) and the views all around were stunning as ever.
a few miles up the road and we were beginning to feel very chilly. eventually we found a layby to pull into and changed into jeans and sweat shirts. goodness knows what passing cars thought we were up to! :)
back in biars it was a dash into leclerc for oven chips, chipolatas and baked beans (from the english section!). amazing how you can enjoy all the lovely foreign fare but crave good old fashioned grub when tired and cold! the day had started at 27 degrees and it was now 18! last night i threw a wash into the machine and emptied the camper fridge but we left the rest until today. the fifth wash is on now and lou has found kilos of beans in the veg patch plus five big aubergines and a courgette the size of a marrow!
we have done the rounds to get replacements of everything that was in the stolen wallet. i rang the english help line of the medical bods in cahors and the girl said she would put a form in the post for us. this afternoon we went to the bank, no probs, to the medical insurance office, ditto, and to the mairie about the driving license, hiccup! the girl there sweetly informed us that she could do the replacement for a lost 'permit' but a stolen one requires a visit to the gendarmerie to get a special form. off to the gendarmerie in bretenoux which, happily, was open this afternoon. a young uniformed gendarme (eat your heart out, kate!) took us through to a back office and spent ages on a computer putting in all lou's details, full names of parents?! but finally handed us two copies of the form we need to send off with the request for the new driving license. lou is busy with it now! meanwhile i am blanching my through the kilos of haricots vert! tomorrow, les chats!

Welcome Home! Hope les chats welcome you as well, and that all the necessary documentation to replace stolen license, etc. is not too annoying.

yesterday was fine but today we have been told by lloyds, the only card to be used fraudulently, (which says something about their security systems) that we are responsible for the cash taken! we tried to get through to them but were repeatedly put on hold! when we did finally get to speak to someone she said some amounts had already been taken....so our problem not hers! lou has just rung again and the same story...... grrrrrr

Sounds like lloyds customer service has gone downhill for certain. A.decided, after 50 years as a loyal customer to close the account due to similar 'security' problems!

i felt the same, 45 years a customer! trouble is, lou tells me we wouldn't be able to open an account with another uk bank as we no longer have an address there! lou has written a stiff letter so we'll see if any action is taken on our behalf!
