st pons les mures

back in france so we can buy a paper we understand and i have even found today's sunday telegraph, not my favourite paper but someone had taken the culture mag out of the last sunday times! the campsite is HUGE! it is like being on a housing estate! we are on pitch 314 so that gives you some idea of the size and there are pitches on the other (beach) side of the road. is it as i remember? well, yes, just a bit. the sea is still where it was and the pine trees are still growing and giving off their lovely perfume. but the road is jammed with traffic in both directions and there are campsites all along the beach side.
i walked along until i reached port grimaud, a twee seaside village built a few years after i was last here and just as toy town as i imagined it would be when i originally read about it. i worked out roughly where our campsite used to be and the beach opposite and found the rocks that we posed on for photos or some very like them! :) i walked all the way past st pons les mures to port grimaud looking for a bank machine (and found it) and found that english sunday paper.
i texted lou that it would take me 45 minutes to walk back and i would need a large glass of cold wine when i got back. he took me at my word and i am into my second glass of cold rose as i type! :) we may be on plan c tomorrow as lou is anxious to start the hassle of replacing all the cards he lost; health, insurance, etc so we are looking at a different route home. it may be via millau again!

Hurrah for knowing the local language! My first trip to this area was when Alan and I married and we took the kids (Edward, Tina, Claire) on a keycamp holiday, near Frejus, which is not too far from Port Grimaud, I think. I can just imagine how much you loved being in France in 'the old days'...I certainly loved the med pines, and the sound of the cicadas..perhaps that brings back memories for you, Lynne?
