circuit de la combe aux bisons
great walking today under gloomy skies but no rain! i slept like a log in the antique bed which is surprisingly comfortable. breakfast was taken in yet another salle decorated in the ubiquitous brown but a good spread of grub for filling up the tank before tackling the snow. armed with the guide book we easily found the raquette piste which is marked with yellow posts and the odd picture of snowshoes. happily it was a purely raquette piste not shared with the ski du fond although we crossed it once or twice.
the combe aux bisons is exactly that! a herd of bison behind fences that warn of the unpredictable animals behind them. there is an auberge that i think we rejected as lacking en suite bathrooms which sold us coffee and beer and the usual cat came to appraise us.
one peeped in the bedroom window this afternoon back at the hotel!
we ate our sarnie lunch under a tree looking down at la pesse and then trudged back down so lou could flake out while i went off to look in the museum.
which was ferme exceptionelle, why is it always me? but the nearby shop selling local goodies was sufficient distraction and i came away with a chilli cherry drink made in turenne! talk about coals to newcastle!
after lou's little zzzz we went for tea and crepes in the bar and then walked to look for the dog sledding. it seems to be 'amateurs' living in campers with trailers and their own dog teams all camped out in a car park reserved for the purpose so we went off to try the road to giron (route barree at 3 kilometers) and the reindeer park. a good walk down and back saw the evening drawing in and time to change and relax before, hopefully, another good dinner. i do believe this place is a find!
