hotel burdet, la pesse

the demi-pension is go! the meal tonight was simple but excellent! creamy quiche and salad followed by trout in noisette sauce (with veggies, not the accursed rice) and then yummy raspberry mousse. result!
we had sunshine all the way here which gave me a migraine in the end, all that flashing sunlight through the leafless trees on the a89! then the gps took us up to giron and lost us. as i later found out the only way to travel from giron to la pesse in winter is on skis! a detour around belleydoux and we arrived. the hotel is a study in brown wallpaper and is antique in an unpicturesque way, however we have some lovely pieces of furniture in our room including a matching armoire and bed and a view of the snowy slope to the east.

la pesse is quite a busy little place with an informative point d'info. armed with a map and the raquette guide we planned the walks for the next couple of days over a beer and a tea in the local brasserie/bar.
the scenery coming up here was stunning, lots of snow everywhere looking pristine. the road wound through forest and sunny meadows.

la pesse even has a museum! we passed the dog sled departure point coming in so shall try to get a ride before we go. rain forecast tomorrow but we have a short walk planned to get in trim for a harder climb the day after.
a bientot!
