zonked tonight as we walked our little legs off today!
headed for the cretes du nerbier which is labelled a 'difficile' walk and which the tourist office lady said was 'muscle'! a gorgeous blue and sunny day so we went for it! the climb to the top at 1377 metres (from 1160 m) was hard but worth it. views to the west across la pesse and way over the jura mountain tops.
from there we walked to the col de nerbier but decided not to turn right to go back down to la pesse but turn left and soldier on to the borne au lion. we didn't quite make it as i fell over trying to negotiate the ski de fond track and forgetting my raquettes were loose for the hill climbing. lou had to heave me up as my knees are so bad now i can only stagger up from a face down position, something i couldn't do with the raquettes under me! with a refuge in sight we stopped for soups, vin chaud (me) and beer (lou). a ginger cat resembling ginge wandered about and it was lovely to relax and cool down. the borne was only 5 minutes walk away but we turned for home and trudged back up to 1300 metres from the 1280 we'd been at. why so much hill climbing when we were meant to be going down? still, all very good for the cardio-vascular but we are both aching now.
this evening we ate very well once again and watched with interest as a family behind us had a raclette meal using a machine that looked circa 1970! the owner told us that the bleu de gex, a local cheese, is excellent for raclette. another cheese for tomorrow's shopping list...
yawn! night night....
